How to schedule Telegram channel posts
By PublishBuddy TeamUpdated on 4 min read
Short answer
To schedule Telegram channel posts from a tool, add the tool's bot to your channel as an admin who can post. Then write and schedule your posts in the tool, and the bot sends each one at its time. For a single message, Telegram's own app works too: hold the Send button and choose Schedule Message.
Key points
- Apps post to Telegram channels through a bot, and the bot needs to be a channel admin with the right to post.
- Bots can't schedule messages inside Telegram. The scheduler keeps your post and has the bot send it on time.
- A text post can run to 4,096 characters. A caption on a photo or video stops at 1,024.
- In PublishBuddy, Telegram connects on every plan: add @publishbuddy_bot, confirm your account, pick the channel.
Telegram is easy to post to by hand and awkward to post to on a schedule. The app has no content calendar, and channels don't connect to other apps the way most networks do. There's no "log in with Telegram" for posting.
Here's how scheduling works, what Telegram allows, and how to set it up.
Two ways to schedule a Telegram post
In the Telegram app. Write your message, then hold the Send button and choose Schedule Message. It works in any chat, channels included. It's fine for a one-off post from your phone. For a week of posts, or a channel that runs next to other networks, it gets slow.
With a scheduler. You plan posts in one place, with a calendar, queue times and the same post going to your other networks. The scheduler can't use your Telegram login for this, though. It posts through a bot.
How bots post to channels
A Telegram channel only lets its admins post. So a scheduler's bot has to be an admin of your channel, with the right to post messages. That's Telegram's rule, not the scheduler's.
One more thing works differently on Telegram: bots can't schedule messages inside Telegram itself. So the scheduler keeps your post, and at the time you picked, its bot sends it to the channel. If someone removes the bot from the channel, nothing can go out until it's back.
Set it up in PublishBuddy
You can connect a Telegram channel on any plan, Free included. Each channel counts as one social account. You need to be an admin of the channel with the right to post, and logged in to Telegram on your phone or computer.
1. Add the bot to your channel
In PublishBuddy, click Accounts, then Add Social Accounts, then the Telegram tile. Click Add the bot in Telegram. Telegram opens and asks which channel to add @publishbuddy_bot to. Pick your channel.
The bot joins as an admin with the rights it needs already ticked: post messages, manage the channel, add subscribers and ban users. Keep them ticked and confirm.
2. Confirm your Telegram account
Back in PublishBuddy, click Confirm with Telegram. In Telegram, press Start, then Link my account. The PublishBuddy window shows "Confirmed as" with your Telegram name. You only do this once.
This step lets PublishBuddy check that you really run the channel. Both the bot and your own account have to be admins who can post.
3. Pick the channel
Your channels show up in a list. Click the one you want. If it's missing, type its username, the part after t.me/ in its link. For a private channel, paste its invite link. Then click Add.
The full walkthrough, with fixes for common errors, is in Connect a Telegram channel.
4. Write and schedule
Click New Post, pick your channel and write the post. Telegram takes text on its own, images, a video, or photos and videos together. Then choose Add to Queue, Schedule or Publish Now.
Posting the same thing to other networks? Pick those accounts in the same post. Telegram's version can be longer, so click its avatar and tailor the text for it.
Telegram's limits
These come from Telegram's Bot API and bot FAQ, read on October 25, 2026, plus what PublishBuddy checks.
| What | Limit |
|---|---|
| Text-only post | 4,096 characters |
| Caption on a photo, video or album | 1,024 characters |
| Files in one album | 2 to 10 on Telegram, up to 8 per post in PublishBuddy |
| Photo a bot uploads | Up to 10 MB |
| Other files a bot uploads | Up to 50 MB |
| Photos and video in one post | Works in PublishBuddy, with videos as MP4 files with sound |
The caption limit is the one that catches people. Telegram Premium users can write longer captions in the app, but bots can't send them. And PublishBuddy doesn't check caption length for Telegram when you save, so an over-long caption only fails when the post goes out. Keep captions on photo and video posts under 1,024 characters. If you need more room, post the text on its own.
When posts stop going out
Most problems come down to the bot's admin rights:
- Someone removed the bot. Add @publishbuddy_bot back as an admin, then reconnect the channel. Reconnecting Telegram doesn't open a login. PublishBuddy just checks the bot again.
- "We couldn't confirm that you manage this channel." The bot isn't an admin, or the Telegram account you confirmed isn't an admin who can post. Fix it in the channel's admin settings and click Add again.
- The channel's username changed. Reconnect the channel so PublishBuddy picks up the new one.
See how your posts did
Once posts go out, PublishBuddy shows each one's reactions, comments and forwards. On Pro and Business, the Analytics page adds new followers, views and reactions for the channel over time. Telegram only shares channel statistics for channels that qualify for them, so a small or new channel may show less.
