How to schedule posts to Threads, Bluesky and X at the same time
By PublishBuddy TeamUpdated on 4 min read
Short answer
Connect all three accounts to one scheduler, write the post once, and trim each network's version before you schedule it. The text limits differ: X allows 280 characters, Bluesky 300 and Threads 500. In PublishBuddy you pick the three accounts in one post, tailor each version, then pick a time or add it to the queue.
Key points
- Write to X's 280 characters and the post fits all three. Links count as 23 characters on X.
- In one post, X and Bluesky take up to 4 images or one video. Threads takes up to 8 files, photos and videos mixed.
- Mentions and hashtags don't carry over between networks. Tailor them in each version.
- On Pro and Business, follow-up comments turn a post into a thread on all three networks.
- X, Threads and Bluesky all connect on every PublishBuddy plan, Free included.
Threads, Bluesky and X look alike: short text, a feed, replies. That's why people want to post to all three at once. It mostly works, but each network has its own limits, and a post that's fine on Threads can be too long for X.
Here's what differs, and how to schedule one post to all three without it failing on one of them.
The limits that matter
These are each network's own limits, plus what PublishBuddy checks when you save a post. The network figures come from each network's developer docs and help center, read on October 25, 2026.
| X | Bluesky | Threads | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Text | 280 characters | 300 characters | 500 characters |
| How it counts | Links as 23, emoji as 2 | Characters as you see them | Emoji count extra |
| Images per post in PublishBuddy | Up to 4 | Up to 4 | Up to 8 |
| Image size in PublishBuddy | Up to 5 MB | Up to 2 MB | Up to 8 MB |
| Video in PublishBuddy | One, up to 140 seconds and 512 MB | One, up to 60 seconds and 50 MB | Up to 5 minutes and 1 GB |
| Photos and video in one post | No | No | Yes |
A few notes on the table:
- X Premium subscribers can write longer posts on X itself. Write scheduled posts to 280 characters, the limit every X account has.
- Bluesky's own app now allows up to 10 photos and 10-minute videos. PublishBuddy sends up to 4 images and videos up to 60 seconds, as in the table.
- Threads allows at most 5 links in a post. It accepts carousels of up to 20 photos and videos, while PublishBuddy sends up to 8 files per post.
When one post goes to several accounts, the strictest limit wins. A 4 MB image is fine on Threads but stops the post if Bluesky is in it too. Make a separate post for Bluesky with a smaller image.
Step 1: Connect the three accounts
All three connect on every PublishBuddy plan, and each counts as one social account.
- X and Threads open a login window. Log in to the account you want and allow PublishBuddy. If you use several profiles, check which one is logged in to that network in your browser first, because the window uses it.
- Bluesky has no login window. You type your username, like
name.bsky.social, and an app password you create in Bluesky's settings. Never use your account password here.
Threads connects separately from Instagram, even when they belong together.
Step-by-step guides: X, Threads, Bluesky.
Step 2: Write the post once
Click New Post and select all three accounts under Accounts before you write anything. The text you type goes to all of them.
Write to the shortest limit, X's 280 characters, and you won't have to cut later. If you use links, remember X counts each one as 23 characters, however long it is.
Step 3: Tailor each version
Above the text box there's an avatar for each account. Click one, and the box shows only that account's version. Edit it, and the others keep the shared text.
Things worth changing per network:
- Mentions. An @handle on X is not the same person on Bluesky, where handles look like
name.bsky.social. Fix mentions in each version, or drop them. - Hashtags. They work on X and Bluesky. Threads uses one topic tag per post instead of a string of hashtags.
- Length. Threads gives you 500 characters. Use the room for a fuller version there, and keep the X one tight.
Pick your accounts before you tailor. Adding or removing an account afterwards can copy one version over the others.
Step 4: Add media that fits all three
Every account in the post gets the same media. So if X or Bluesky is in it, stick to four images or one video, and keep images under 2 MB for Bluesky.
Need a carousel of photos and video for Threads? Make a separate post for Threads alone.
Step 5: Check the previews and schedule
The Post Previews panel shows how the post will look on each network. Then pick how it goes out:
- Add to Queue gives it the next free posting time for each account. Set up queue times first.
- Schedule lets you pick a date and time.
- Publish Now sends it right away.
Turn the post into a thread
On Pro and Business, you can add follow-up comments to a post. On X, Threads and Bluesky, each comment replies to the one before it, so the post and its comments form a thread.
To add one, click an account's avatar to make it active, then click Add a comment under the text. Comments belong to one account, so add them for each network in turn. Each comment can wait for a delay you set, counted from the comment before it.
Comment limits match the networks: 280 characters on X, 300 on Bluesky and 500 on Threads. A comment on X or Bluesky can carry one image or video. On Threads, comments are text only.
A single follow-up is handy on its own, too. Put the link in the first reply and keep the main post clean.
See how each version did
After the post goes out, the Posts page shows its likes, replies and reposts on each network. You'll see which audience responded. On X, every number comes from the post itself, because X doesn't give account-level stats.
Frequently asked questions
Can I post the same text to Threads, Bluesky and X?
Yes, if it fits X. X allows 280 characters, Bluesky 300 and Threads 500, so a post that fits X fits all three. X counts every link as 23 characters and every emoji as 2, so check posts with links.
Can I schedule a thread on X, Threads and Bluesky?
Yes, on PublishBuddy's Pro and Business plans. Add follow-up comments to the post: on X, Threads and Bluesky each comment replies to the one before it, so they form a thread. A comment can be up to 280 characters on X, 300 on Bluesky and 500 on Threads.
How do I connect Bluesky to a scheduler?
With your Bluesky username and an app password, which you create in Bluesky's settings. Don't use your account password. In PublishBuddy, click the Bluesky tile, enter both, and the account connects with no login window.
Do Threads and Instagram connect together?
No. Threads connects on its own, even if it belongs to your Instagram account, and the two count as separate social accounts.
Can Bluesky schedule posts by itself?
Bluesky hasn't announced built-in scheduling. Its app added drafts in February 2026. To post at a set time, use a scheduler that supports Bluesky.
