Buffer alternatives in 2026

Five tools worth a look if you're leaving Buffer, with what 10 accounts cost on each and who each one suits.

We make PublishBuddy, which is one of the 5 tools on this page. Each price was checked on that tool's own pricing page on the date in the sources list at the end.

The short version

Most people leave Buffer because the per-channel bill grows, or because they need approvals, deeper analytics or a DM inbox. Which alternative fits depends on which of those it is.

Publer is the closest match on price per account, and Metricool is the analytics pick. PublishBuddy, which we make, covers 10 accounts and a team for $29 with an AI agent. SocialPilot suits agencies, and PostSyncer suits big teams on a budget.

Why people look for a Buffer alternative

The bill grows with every channel. Buffer charges $6 a month per channel on Essentials and $12 on Team for the first 10, so 10 channels cost $60 or $120 a month.

Approvals and extra users need Team. Essentials is for one user, and approval workflows are on Team only.

Analytics got thinner. Buffer retired Analyze on October 7, 2026, and its Insights has no best time to post or audience demographics yet.

There's no DM inbox. Buffer's Community inbox handles comments and Google reviews, but not direct messages. And its AI writes text only.

Publer: a lower price per account

Cheapest paid plan: $5/month (1 account). 10 accounts: $36/month, or $63 with analytics (Business). Free plan: Yes, 3 accounts (no X).

Good fit if you like Buffer's per-account pricing but want it lower: $4 an account on Professional once you have 3, with every 10th free. Publer also posts to Mastodon, Telegram and WordPress.

Less good if you need analytics, AI or the API. Those need Business, at $7 an account, and both trials ask for a card or PayPal.

Metricool: analytics on a budget

Cheapest paid plan: $25/month (Starter, up to 5 brands). 10 accounts: $25 to $45/month, depending on brands. Free plan: Yes, 1 brand (no LinkedIn or X).

Good fit if you want more from your stats than Buffer's Insights gives. Paid plans keep unlimited history, track competitors and report on ads, from $25 a month for up to 5 brands.

Less good if a team shares the work, since Starter has 1 user, or you post to X a lot. Each X account costs $10 a month.

PublishBuddy: one price and an AI agent

Cheapest paid plan: $29/month (Pro, 10 accounts). 10 accounts: $29/month. Free plan: Yes, 3 accounts.

Good fit if you run 5 to 20 accounts and want one price. $29 a month covers 10 accounts and 5 team members, with an AI agent that writes and schedules posts. Approvals come with Business at $49.

Less good if you need a DM inbox, a link-in-bio page like Start Page, or Mastodon. PublishBuddy doesn't have them yet.

SocialPilot: agency features at a flat price

Cheapest paid plan: $30/month (7 accounts, 1 user). 10 accounts: $50/month (Standard). Free plan: No.

Good fit if you want more accounts per plan and agency tools. Standard covers 15 accounts and 3 users for $50 a month, with analytics, an inbox with DMs and approvals. White-label reports start on Premium at $100.

Less good if you want AI images or video, or a free plan. SocialPilot has neither, and its API is for Enterprise customers.

PostSyncer: unlimited seats and AI

Cheapest paid plan: $29/month (10 accounts). 10 accounts: $29/month (Starter). Free plan: No.

Good fit if lots of people share the work: $29 a month covers 10 accounts with unlimited team members, approvals, AI images and video, and an MCP server.

Less good if you want to test it on a free plan first. There isn't one, and the trial lasts 7 days.

How to choose

If price is why you're leaving, price your real account count. 10 accounts cost $29 a month on PostSyncer, $29 on PublishBuddy, $36 on Publer Professional (without analytics) and $50 on SocialPilot, which covers 15.

If analytics matter most, Metricool goes deepest for the money. If your team needs approvals, Publer has them on Professional, SocialPilot on Standard, PostSyncer on every plan and PublishBuddy on Business.

If you liked Buffer's simplicity, Publer is the closest match, since it's also priced per account. If you want AI to take work off your plate, PublishBuddy's agent schedules posts from a chat inside the app.

Before you leave Buffer

  1. Write down what you use Buffer for: the networks, how many accounts, who posts, who approves, and which reports you send. That list rules most tools in or out.
  2. Get your queue out. Buffer has no export for queued posts, so list them with Buffer's API or copy them into a spreadsheet. Most tools here import a CSV.
  3. Download the reports you want to keep. Stats stored in Buffer don't move to another tool.
  4. Check when Buffer renews, so you don't pay for a month you won't use.
  5. Try your top two picks on the same accounts for a week. Most tools here have a free trial, and several don't ask for a card.
  6. Move what's still scheduled, then delete it from Buffer so nothing posts twice. Cancel once its queue is empty.
